Gail Larson, Trumbull Township passed along this message from Dan Philipps, LeRoy Township. I'd like to thank the folks from all of the government agencies that came out today to the Stakeholders Committee Meeting at the Lake County Utilities Board Room for the Vrooman Road Bridge and Roadway Improvement Project meeting. All of our small and rural Townships need to help each other understand the issues that face them.

Subject: Leroy Twp Trustee Meeting
Date: March 5, 2012 10:16:38 PM EST
Thanks to all who were able to attend the Leroy Township Trustee meeting tonight. This was an excellent turnout and excellent questions were asked.
The discussion went on nearly an hour and covered most of the many concerns about fracking. I think it painted a clear picture of residents concerns, and what impact this could have not only on the environment but on our livelihood in Leroy Township.
Marian McMahon from the Lake County Gazette recorded the meeting and will be writing an article. The Leroy Township Trustee meeting minutes will also reflect the residents comments and Trustee responses.
Chuck Klco has not signed a lease and was most concerned and forthright in wanting to address the resident comments. Rich van Pelt and Sharon Rodgers have signed leases, so had little to say. Linda has not signed a lease (she owns1.5 acres) but she appeared to be mostly supportive of the State initiative for jobs and energy independence, and working towards protection through a good lease. Chuck agreed to writing letters to the State Representative and Senator and the governors office and to holding an informational meeting. He will be contacting Dan Donaldson from SWCD in the morning. Although not committing themselves to contacting the Metroparks board, Chuck encouraged residents to write letters. A good percentage of Leroy (20%?) is in park land. ( We probably could get the Trustees to contact the Metroparks board as well).
Later in the meeting, during review of prior meeting minutes, it was noted that Wishgard has approached the Trustees to put the townships 43 acres (cemeteries, etc) under lease for $1700 per acre. This is in review by the Trustees working with attorneys and no decision has been made. The final decision could be made by the Trustees without citizen input after more review.
If any one else who attended the meeting wants to share their perspective of the meeting and more details, please send an e-mail. It was clear the Trustees do not think they have much if any authority to do anything, but the residents made it clear they should not just stand on the sidelines! There is a lot at stake. Thanks!
Dan
